Hendry – Robert Douglas 1870-1927

Became a Fellow of the Society of Chemists in 1909[?]. Application states:

“Hendry, Robert Douglas, 3, Glebe Terrace, Alloa. Chemist and Manager of Dyeworks. Trained as Chemist at Nottingham University College ; Chemist and Manager for twelve years to Messrs. John Paton, Son <fe Co., Ltd., Alloa. Has specially studied Chemistry in its relation to wool and colour, and lectured on these and allied subjects. Wishes to become a Fellow for the purpose of keeping in touch with the latest thought and methods in the chemical world. ”

In 1915 he gave a presentation on Colour Making in Scotland which was reproduced as a booklet.

    Extract of obituary,
    Ballie Robert D. Hendry, a prominent citizen of Alloa, died at his home residence, Claremont, Alloa early this morning after three days illness.
    Deceased was a native of Paisley and had been Head of Dying Department of Paton and Baldwin’s.
    He was a Magistrate of Alloa for the past 10 Years
